I have recently completed a series of work revolving around a single theme.  I think that they are pretty neat.  They were inspired by a journal from asking us to send in things reminding us of new beginnings.

I took this picture one day in November when I was walking the Cliff Walk.



When I saw the journal of Project Earth I thought that the Photo would make an interesting Photomanip.  The first problem that I had was removing the sky from the image as it has approximately the same colors as the piece of driftwood in the picture.  Another problem was cleaning up the edges.  Some of the protrusions were sacrificed as this was the only way that I could get in close enough to the edge to remove the last of the background.  The next challenge was to figure out how much of the hole to erase and how to make it circular and still have the protrusions in the center to make it look as if the piece of driftwood was still holding in the world or object that I put in there.  I used the circular selection tool in Gimp to outline the size of the circle and then use the erase tool to erase the parts that I didn't want.  Finally I layered all of the photographs that I wanted in the right order and then added the borders and text.
